Why spray foam for tanks and vessels

Industrial tanks and process vessels — curved steel shells holding water, chemicals or process fluids — lose or gain heat rapidly through their bare metal walls and sweat heavily when contents sit below ambient temperature. That heat loss wastes energy, that condensation corrodes the shell and runs onto plant below, and conventional jacket insulation leaves seams and fixing points that let moisture track behind it.

Enverge closed-cell spray foam self-bonds directly to the curved steel as it cures, wrapping the vessel in one seamless skin with no joints, straps or fixings for water to get behind. It follows the curvature of the tank continuously, insulating against heat loss or gain while its closed-cell structure resists moisture and keeps the steel surface above dew point to stop sweating.

The result is a tightly wrapped, well-insulated vessel that holds process temperature, stops condensation and corrosion, and accepts a protective weatherable finish over the foam for external durability. Because the coating is seamless and self-bonding, there are no cold spots at joints — the whole shell performs as one continuous insulated unit.

A seamless wrap

Closed-cell foam follows the curve of the tank for a continuous, joint-free insulated layer.

Enverge closed-cell spray foam (Nexseal LE) is applied directly to the prepared steel of the tank or vessel, self-bonding and expanding to follow its curvature in a continuous, jointless layer. Tanks and vessels are exactly the shapes segmented lagging fails on: curved, jointed and exposed. Sprayed closed-cell foam wraps the entire tank in one continuous 25–80 mm layer that bonds to steel, GRP and plastic alike — no joints, no cold bridging, no moisture ingress paths.

Externally, the foam is finished with a Gaco elastomeric topcoat for UV and weather protection. Most tanks are completed in 1–3 days without draining or decommissioning, protecting process temperatures and preventing frost damage year-round.

Can spray foam stop my process tank from sweating?

Yes. Bare cold tanks condense because their steel sits below dew point. Closed-cell foam bonds to the shell and keeps the surface above dew point, so the vessel stops sweating and no longer drips onto plant and equipment below.

Does it work on curved or irregular vessels?

Yes — that's a key advantage. The foam is sprayed as a liquid that self-bonds and expands to follow the curve of the shell continuously, with no joints or fixings, so it suits tanks and vessels of awkward or rounded geometry.

Will the insulation help maintain process temperature?

It significantly reduces heat transfer through the tank wall, helping hold contents at their required temperature and cutting the energy used to heat or cool them. We'll assess your vessel and process needs to confirm the right specification.

Can the foam be finished for outdoor tanks?

Yes. For external vessels a protective, weatherable finish is applied over the cured foam, giving a durable surface that stands up to weather and UV while the closed-cell foam underneath does the insulating.

Is it suitable for tanks holding chemicals or specific fluids?
