Basement retaining walls formed from contiguous or secant piling present a uniquely awkward surface. The pile faces are irregular and ribbed, with gaps, projections and an uneven concrete profile that no rigid board can follow. Below ground, these walls are a major cold bridge into the basement, and the cold, damp internal face readily forms condensation — a serious problem for occupied or fitted-out basement levels.
Enverge closed-cell spray foam is applied straight onto the raw pile faces, expanding into every flute, gap and projection before curing rigid. It self-bonds to the concrete piling as it sets, with no need to first build a flat substrate to fix boards to. The continuous, contour-following layer insulates the wall and seals its surface, breaking the below-ground cold bridge and keeping the internal face dry.

Below-ground and underfloor spaces are hostile to boards: irregular pile faces, tight crawl voids and damp-prone surfaces leave gaps everywhere. Sprayed closed-cell foam is applied at 25–100 mm directly onto the irregular surface — sheet piling, retaining walls, blockwork or floor joists — sealing cold bridging and carrying its own vapour barrier.
Because the applicator sprays in-situ, compromised voids that could never be boarded out are insulated completely, sealing draughts up into the building and bringing the below-ground envelope up to specification in a single visit.

Yes. Piled basement walls are a below-ground cold bridge, and their cold internal face readily condenses. The low-permeability foam insulates the wall and raises its surface temperature, keeping the internal face dry — important for occupied or fitted-out basement levels.
Generally yes. Because the foam bonds straight to the irregular piling and follows its contours, you avoid framing out a flat surface for boards, which would otherwise project further into the room. A bonded foam layer keeps more usable basement floor area.
Closed-cell foam is low-permeability and resists moisture, making it well suited to the cold, damp conditions of a basement retaining wall. It should be specified as part of a wider basement waterproofing and build-up strategy, which we coordinate with the design team.
