Spray Foam For Contiguous Piling and Secant Piling

Enverge Spray Foam Insulation could be the right solution for your project if you are constructing a contiguous or secant piled wall. Spray foam can be more effective than other pre-manufactured insulation forms for contiguous piling insulation. It can be sprayed between and across the structure to provide a seamless thermal layer that prevents heat loss and reduces air voids. Spray foam insulation is used and considered in place of shotcrete to infill and overlay secant and contiguous pilings, applied, and sprayed directly to the surface as a liquid to rapidly cure into a high-density foam, giving a robust surface.

Enverge Spray Foam Insulation Benefits

Enverge Nexseal LE Closed Cell for Contiguous Piling Insulation

With reliable substrate adhesion, consistent dimensional stability, and excellent airtight thermal performance, Enverge Nexseal LE Closed Cell is preferred over shotcrete for contiguous piling insulation. It is spray-applied as a liquid before rapidly expanding and filling between and across voids for a seamless thermal layer. The high-density nature of Nexseal LE ensures a firm and rigid finish is achieved to contiguous or secant piling, enabling traditional waterproof layers to be installed easily. Closed-cell insulation is one of the most effective solutions for adhesion to many different substrates, and it will not shrink, degrade, or deteriorate in performance over time. Another benefit is the rapid curing time, which can help to speed up the project without concerns over drying times, especially where weather conditions are variable. Nexseal LE expands and rises to its final thickness within seconds, whereas Shotcrete can take up to 7 days to fully cure.

Contiguous Piling Insulation / Secant Piling Insulation

Contiguous piling is commonly used to separate earth or sand from the structure being built. It’s common when underground basements or structures are built into an excavated hillside. Without adequate tanking or insulation, there is a high risk of moisture and cold bridging transferring through the building assembly to cause dampness, condensation, and mould issues within the structure. Enverge Nexseal LE offers a superb thermal break to separate the outside from the inside. Shotcrete may have been a standard method to infill contiguous and secant piling. Still, with dust, wastage, cost, and site accessibility often presenting issues, Enverge Nexseal LE Closed Cell spray foam insulation has become the popular alternative in recent years. A spray foam team can mobilise directly to the installation zone without needing heavy plant and machinery. In densely congested towns and cities where large cement lorries are difficult to mobilise and the risk of dust, noise and waste is of primary concern, Nexseal LE offers a much easier and lower risk alternative for contiguous piling insulation, secant piling insulation and contiguous piling infill.

Does Enverge Nexseal LE React with Moisture?

The only downside to using Enverge Nexseal LE Closed Cell for contiguous piling insulation is the requirement for stable and dry environmental conditions. The polyurethane reacts to water as it is spray-applied to the substrate, which can affect adhesion and the finished surface if the moisture content is too high. If choosing Enverge Nexseal LE for contiguous piling insulation, secant piling insulation or piling infill, it is essential that the substrate is dry and free from moisture for the treatment to be successful.

What’s The Difference Between Nexseal LE and Shotcrete?

Shotcrete is a cementitious product used to infill and flatten off contiguous piling before further waterproofing layers are applied. The pilings offer exceptional structural integrity, but their irregular shape can affect the remainder of the build unless infilled and flattened. Shotcrete effectively achieves the infill and flatter surface, but the curing time and the large plant and machinery required can make the process time-consuming and messy. Enverge Nexseal LE is a viable alternative to Shotcrete as it will achieve a similarly flat surface but requires less equipment and shorter curing times, and it can be a less invasive process, especially in built-up areas in towns and cities.

Is Enverge Nexseal LE Spray Foam Insulation More Expensive Than Shotcrete?

The costs are dependent on the thickness installed, but in general, when the cost of Shotcrete, the installation process and curing time is considered, Enverge Nexseal LE closed cell is likely to be comparative in price. Additionally, the installation of Nexseal LE should be less invasive and will require smaller plant and equipment which may be a benefit to the project.

Does Enverge Nexseal LE Last as Long As Shotcrete?

Enverge Nexseal LE is a high-density 2lb insulation system with excellent substrate adhesion and dimensional stability. Provided it is covered and protected like shotcrete, it will last for the life of the surface or structure onto which its installed.

How Soon Does Closed Cell Insulation Need to Be Covered Over?

Enverge Nexseal LE Closed Cell must be covered with a UV-stable coating or membrane shortly after installation. UV light can break down the foam insulation and reduce its density, stability, and lifespan. Most waterproofing sheets will offer suitable protection from UV light, and the membrane or coating should be installed within 24 hours of the insulation being installed. Unlike Shotcrete, Enverge Nexseal LE doesn’t require seven days to cure fully; therefore, the waterproofing layer can be applied as soon as the insulation has been installed.

Does It Come with A Warranty?

Yes. All Enverge Spray Foam Installations attract a 25-year Product Warranty and at least a 5-year Workmanship Warranty. Spray foam insulation is one of the most durable insulation materials available in the UK, and it won’t shrink or degrade like some other pre-manufactured insulation materials. It requires no ongoing operational or maintenance input and will remain in place as a passive insulation solution that becomes a part of the building envelope. Every project is different and whilst spray foam insulation is one of the most adaptable insulation materials, the duration of warranty can vary from project to project depending on risk and expected lifespan.
