The challenge

A working carpentry workshop needs a stable, comfortable internal temperature for staff and for the materials being worked, yet uninsulated stud walls allow heat to escape and outside cold to penetrate. The result is an environment that is expensive to heat and uncomfortable to work in, with cold wall surfaces that can attract condensation.

Timber stud walls are made up of studs, noggins and cavities, and traditional friction-fit insulation often leaves gaps at edges, around services and where it slumps over time. These gaps become cold bridges and air paths that undermine thermal performance and allow moisture to form on cold surfaces within the build-up.

The ThermoFoam solution

ThermoFoam specified Enverge Nexseal LE closed-cell spray foam, applied directly into the stud wall build-up. As it cures, the foam self-bonds to the timber and substrate and expands to fill the cavities completely, sealing tightly around studs, noggins and services with no gaps, slumping or fixings required.

Because the closed-cell foam both insulates and resists air and vapour movement, it raises internal surface temperatures and removes the cold bridges and draught paths that a friction-fit system leaves behind. The seamless fill keeps the workshop warmer and controls the condensation risk across the wall.

The result

The stud walls gained a continuous, gap-free layer of closed-cell insulation that improved the workshop's thermal performance, reduced draughts and controlled condensation. The work was completed to the manufacturer-certified standard and is backed by the manufacturer-backed product warranty.
