The challenge
Water tanks and process vessels present an awkward insulation challenge. Their curved, ribbed and irregular surfaces are difficult to wrap with rigid board, and the stored water holds the tank at a temperature that differs sharply from the surrounding air. That difference drives both heat loss through the tank wall and persistent surface condensation.
For a modular manufacturer like Modular Cubed in Ripon, any insulation system also has to integrate cleanly into a controlled industrial environment. Traditional lagging leaves seams, fixings and cold bridges that interrupt thermal performance, trap moisture and complicate inspection — an outcome ThermoFoam was engaged specifically to avoid.
The ThermoFoam solution
ThermoFoam specified Enverge closed-cell spray foam, applied directly to the tank surface. As the foam cures it self-bonds to the substrate, following every curve, rib and fitting to form one continuous insulating skin with no joints, fasteners or mechanical fixings. This eliminates the seams and cold bridges that compromise board and wrap systems.
Closed-cell foam is dense and effectively impermeable, so it both insulates the vessel and acts as a barrier against moisture reaching the cold tank surface. Supplied by Duratite, the UK distributor of record, the system carries 25-year manufacturer-backed warranty, giving Modular Cubed a recognised, documented specification for the installation.
The result
The tank now carries a seamless, fully bonded layer of closed-cell insulation that stabilises its thermal behaviour and suppresses surface condensation. The finished application is monolithic and robust, suited to an industrial setting, and backed by a 25-year manufacturer-backed product warranty.
