The challenge
Self-build clients carry the full risk of every construction decision, and the roof is one of the hardest elements to get right. This Kent project needed thermal performance across an irregular pitched roof with awkward junctions, valleys and changes of plane that traditional board insulation struggles to follow neatly without gaps or cold bridging.
The client wanted the roof space brought within the warm envelope of the home rather than left as a cold, ventilated void. That meant insulation had to be applied directly to the underside of the pitched roof, sealing the line continuously while accommodating the existing rafter layout without costly structural alteration or repeated trade visits.
The ThermoFoam solution
ThermoFoam specified Enverge closed-cell spray foam, applied to the underside of the pitched roof. As a closed-cell system it self-bonds to the substrate as it cures, forming a continuous insulating layer that follows every rafter, junction and change of plane without the gaps left by rigid boards cut to fit around an irregular roof structure.
The closed-cell foam delivers high thermal performance while sealing against air movement, so the roofline becomes both insulated and airtight in a single application. Working to the 25-year manufacturer-backed warranty specification, the team controlled thickness across the roof and tied the new insulation cleanly into the surrounding build elements.
The result
The self-build gained a warm, airtight pitched roof that brings the roof space within the thermal envelope, giving the client a usable, comfortable upper storey. As an Enverge installation the work carries a 25-year manufacturer-backed product warranty, giving the homeowner long-term assurance over a critical part of their finished home.
