The challenge

For a self-build in Newbury, the owner wanted the loft brought into use as habitable, room-in-roof space rather than a cold storage void. That requires insulation worked directly into the slope of the pitched roof, holding strong thermal performance tight against the rafters so the headroom and floor area below stay usable.

Berkshire self-builds demand a clean, well-sealed result the owner can finish to a high standard. Rigid board cut between rafters tends to leave gaps, draught paths and cold bridging at every junction, so the project needed a continuous insulation system that follows the roof slope and ties neatly into the surrounding structure.

The ThermoFoam solution

ThermoFoam specified Enverge closed-cell spray foam, applied between and across the rafters of the pitched roof. The closed-cell foam self-bonds to the substrate as it cures, filling tight to the timbers and following the roof slope to form a continuous insulating layer free of the gaps and draught paths that undermine board insulation in a room-in-roof.

Insulating and air-sealing in a single pass, the foam turns the roof slope into a warm, airtight line ready for the owner to board and finish internally. ThermoFoam worked to the manufacturer's specification, controlling thickness along the pitch to keep the warm envelope tight against the rafters and preserve usable space.

The result

The Newbury self-build gained a warm, airtight pitched roof that unlocks the loft as comfortable room-in-roof living space, ready for the owner to finish. As an Enverge installation, the work carries a 25-year manufacturer-backed product warranty, giving the homeowner lasting confidence in their roof.
