The challenge
Agricultural buildings are typically thin-skinned steel or sheet structures that lose heat easily and condense readily. Livestock, stored produce and machinery all add moisture and warmth to the internal air, and where that air meets the cold roof and walls it forms condensation that can damage stock, equipment and the building itself.
At Beth Haven Farm in Teesside, the working farm environment demanded a tough, practical solution. The building's profiled surfaces are difficult to insulate with rigid board, and any system would have to cope with a robust agricultural setting while sealing the structure thoroughly against moisture and cold.
The ThermoFoam solution
ThermoFoam applied Enverge closed-cell spray foam to the farm building's structure. As it cures the foam self-bonds to the substrate, following the profiled sheeting to form a continuous, seamless layer with no boards, fixings or joints — eliminating the gaps and cold bridges where condensation takes hold.
Closed-cell foam is dense, durable and resistant to moisture, making it well suited to the demands of an agricultural building. Supplied by Duratite, the UK distributor of record, and certified, the system gave the farm a recognised, documented insulation specification.
The result
The farm building now has a seamless, fully bonded insulating layer that improves thermal control and significantly reduces condensation on the cold roof and walls.
